Karate
by emilio labrador

There are many ways in which a kid around seven to ten can be kept active. Most of the time we leave them to play with those of their own age or provide them with playthings which are most of the time very expensive. However, we must accept the fact that these activities are often useless and not worthy of your child’s time. Only few activities are available which can entertain a kid while inculcating helpful and advantageous effects.

One of these rare yet now a common practice for kids to be involved is karate. Karate means “empty handed”. This if fitting for the discipline because it utilizes the body to produce the strength and power needed in encounters that needed the same. Karate may be popular among adults but there is actually a growing number of children who are already expert in this field. In fact, there are already a lot of competitions held to determine the best among the rest.

Karate for kids may be a new concept to some parents especially when they are overprotective with their kids. Of course, who would like to have their children do such rigorous trainings and routines. Actually this is not so. Karate for kids is called as such because they are for children on the first place. There is a big difference on the approach that karate teachers instruct their young students as compared to those adult students. But when it comes to the benefits that they can get, more or less they have the same.

Kids love adventures right? They can easily be caught with matters that are new to them. Take for example movies that involve karate. Haven’t you noticed that they are easily amazed by all those kicks and punches? When a parent is confronted with questions like “How did they do it” or “Can I also do that?” it would be a hard task to explain to them complicated things. So why not enrol them in karate lessons to solve it all? When properly guided they will know more about karate, how it can be applied to everyday life and the purpose that it is practiced by many.

In addition to that, karate can help a parent mould his child’s attitude. This is because karate classes does not only teach kicks and punches. Attached to karate is the core values of discipline, patience and respect. A student will never be a martial artist without these values. Moreover, karate for kids is a great way to prepare them for their future ahead. They can use it to choose a career or something like that. Who knows that those little ones in karate schools will grow to be the most famous martial artists in the world? All is possible.

Lastly, with karate, kids will at least be armed with methods to protect themselves. Parents will not forever be by their kid’s side. Karate increases the survival of a kid in escaping crimes involving their innocence and weakness not to mention the healthy benefits it gives to the kid’s body.

The right clothes and equipment is a good idea if you’re really serious about your mixed martial arts training.

This means getting gloves and head guards as well as comfortable training clothes. By themselves these items won’t make you a better fighter, but they help by allowing you to focus more and help you feel more professional. Serious competitors can be identified most often by the commitment represented in their specialized clothing and equipment. It can also help to have the right training equipment at home, such as weights, jump rope or an exercise machine for when you aren’t at the gym. When practicing at a mixed martial arts gym or martial arts school, be sure to train with a variety of people. Make a point of training with those who are more experienced and skillful than you. Be careful that you don’t train with those at the same level or lower in an effort to maintain control. Those who are at a higher level than you will help you improve the most. They’ve been where you are, so if you’re respectful and show them you’re willing to learn, they will most likely be willing to help you. Sparring with other skilled martial artists will show you the areas that you need to improve on. To help take your skills to the next level, training with better fighters is a great option.

You should train mercilessly if you want to meet your goals in mixed martial arts, but you also need some down time. Every individual has his or her own level of resilience, however it is crucial for you to take a break at least once or twice every week. If you overtrain, you risk injuries and might burn yourself out. It is vital for you to give your body some mending time, as it needs to build itself back up again. This is a principle that applies to all sports and conditioning.

If you want to get faster, stronger and have better techniques, train as much as you can, but take regular rest days as well. This will let you go farther as time passes and transform you into a greater MMA competitor. You won’t progress in mixed martial arts without plenty of time and effort. Work out as hard as you can but be careful so you can avoid as many injuries as possible. You can begin to see greater improvement to your MMA skills with these tips.

You’re Never Too Old For Martial Arts Training

Taekwondo
by Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games

When seen on television or across the silver screen, martial arts appear a striking phenomena, an art performed with incredible force and daunting physical power. In practice, the masters and students we see in the classrooms and gymnasiums seem exuberant, disciplined and full of vigor. We often find ourselves admiring martial arts and their practitioners, but very seldom do we consider attempting them. For ourselves, we may wonder if we’re past the age where we could ever learn such an art. For our children, we ask if they are too young to comprehend and appreciate it. The truth, however, is that martial arts can be learned at any age.

Like any new physical routine, a person must first evaluate their past and current health in order to determine where they would like to see their future health. The great thing about martial arts is that no matter where one is in their current health, there is a martial art suitable to take them where they would like to be.

Kung Fu is more well known by name than content. It is a martial art deeply rooted in Chinese history and philosophy, brought to light in modern pop culture by cinema and famous martial artists such as Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, and Jet Li. While portrayed in the media as a powerhouse physical force, an action staple, and highly combative art, Kung Fu actually encompasses so much more than that.

]]>

The aforementioned martial artists and films that they have starred in or inspired, can make Kung Fu seem quite intimidating. Yet, the art is not meant to intimidate, but to encourage and enlighten. The basics, which are founded in simple conditioning exercises and stances, paired with meditation that facilitate focus, can be easily taught and learned under a proper master. Learning Kung Fu, benefits not only the body, but the mind and soul, as it reworks the muscles in action and engulfs the self into a higher level of awareness.

Taekwondo is growing in the international spotlight, and is in fact the most popular martial art in the world with the largest number of practitioners. It is the national sport of South Korea, and an art with a very interesting history due to the Japanese occupation of Korea a century ago.

Taekwondo, like many other martial arts, focuses on several areas of effect, namely combat, self-defense, sport and meditation. There is a great emphasis on the legs, as the founders of the art believed that the legs are the longest and strongest part of the human body, thus the greatest weapon and foundation. It is an art that focuses on the development of strength, speed, balance and overall stamina, which is great for one of ambitious mind and body.

There is a martial art for every and any one out there willing to put forth the time and effort, regardless of age, gender, or even weight and current health. Practicing the arts does not only help to discipline the mind and body, but raise self awareness and security. Kung Fu and Taekwondo are only two examples of a very diverse set of martial arts, a person only needs to look a bit further or wider to find one to fit their life.

Changing Lives offers the finest Chesapeake VA Mixed Martial Arts Instruction. We teach karate, taekwondo, and kung fu to all ages from tiny tigers and kids to adults and seniors and all levels from beginners to advanced.
